Google, Adidas and EA have teamed up to develop a smart insole that can be connected to a phone and turn action on a football pitch into a reward for FIFA Mobile. The smart insole uses Google’s Jacquard wearable technology, which was previously available with only two Levi’s jackets and a Yves Saint Laurent shoulder bag.
The product, called Adidas GMR, is now on sale. For just $40, users can buy two insoles, one Jacquard label in the user’s usual foot shoes and the other in the other.” The label slides into the pocket of the insole and tracks the user’s body movements through the machine learning algorithm on the device. The kicks and runs while playing football can be translated into in-game rewards in FIFA Mobile.
The GMR tag connects to your phone’s Adidas GMR app and, once set up, can be associated with the FIFA Mobile profile. Once completed, users will unlock the Adidas GMR exclusive event in FIFA Mobile, which brings new challenges in the real world every week, such as a certain number of kicking moves or a certain number of running miles. There will also be leaderboards where users can see who is playing the fastest or running the most.
The tag’s built-in battery can support two or three full football games at a time, and the battery can be used for about a week if the user uses the label only in moderation. However, each time you charge the label, you must remove the insole, remove the label from the insole, charge the label via Micro USB, and put the label back in the insole, and then put the insole back into the shoe.
