March 11 (UPI) — The White House will convene a meeting of major technology companies on Wednesday local time to coordinate measures to deal with the current outbreak of the new coronavirus, according tomedia reports. So far, the new coronavirus has infected nearly 1,000 people in the United States, and more than 100,000 people worldwide.

The White House Office of Technology Policy confirmed to Reuters that the big technology companies attending the meeting would include Facebook, Alphabet Inc’s Google, Amazon, Twitter, Apple and Microsoft.

The White House said the meeting would be chaired by Michael Kratsios, the chief U.S. technology officer, and that some companies would participate in a conference call.

The news was first reported by Fox News. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the media in response to the news.

White House officials are meeting with people from the airline, financial and medical industries to discuss the adverse effects of curbing the spread of the new coronavirus.
