Elon Musk has floated the idea of making ventilators as hospitals face a shortage of supplies caused by a new coronavirus outbreak, media reported, after a Twitter fan asked him to change the use of the plant. However, the Tesla and SpaceX boss also said it would take time.
Nate Silver, editor of FiveThRityEight, a news site focused on statistics and polls, pressed Musk for further details.
“Tesla makes cars with advanced HVAC systems. SpaceX’s spaceship has a life support system. Ventilation is not difficult, but it can’t be made right away,” Musk responded.
Silver praised Musk and noted that hospitals in New York and Seattle are now in serious danger. He then suggested that people who need edgtos to tweet to him and Musk. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio later joined the discussion.
“New York City wants to buy it!” “Our country is facing a severe shortage of ventilators, and we need ventilators, the sooner the better — in the next few weeks, our city will need thousands of ventilators,” he wrote. “We’re finding them as quickly as we can, but we need your help!”
Hospitals have warned that they are not prepared for the expected influx of new coronavirus patients, and that the U.S. Department of Defense will donate 5 million surgical masks and 2,000 ventilators.
