On March 19, Amazon confirmed that an employee at its logistics center in Queens, New York, had tested positive for the new coronavirus, media reported. This may be the first case found in the workplace, but it is almost certainly not the last. Even if Amazon initially encouraged workers to stay at home when they noticed signs of illness, there was no doubt that many people chose to come to work, and there were some people with basically asymptomatic infections.
Amazon told the media that it had sent the staff of the DBK1 warehouse home and that they had also disinfected the site.
Amazon has denied reports that those on night shifts will still come to work while day shift workers are sent home.
Despite Amazon’s size, the company has been forced to restrict shipments of certain items, including non-essentials through the Fulfillby Amazon project, and to suspend Delivery of Prime Pantry.
