The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now has a coronavirus self-checker tool on its website that assesses people’s symptoms and risk factors and helps them make medical decisions. It said in a statement Released Friday that the tool was developed using Microsoft’s Healthcare Bot service.
Public health organizations, hospitals, and other organizations on the front line of the COVID-19 response need to be able to respond to queries, provide the public with up-to-date outbreak information, track exposure, quickly classify new cases, and guide further action. Microsoft says the Healthcare Bot service is a solution that uses artificial intelligence to help the CENTERs for Disease Control and Prevention and other front-line organizations respond to these queries, freeing doctors, nurses, administrators and other health care professionals to provide intensive care to those in need.
According to the CDC, chatbots are not used to diagnose or treat COVID-19, but can help you make decisions about seeking appropriate medical care. The chatbot asks a series of questions, such as whether you’re sick or looking after someone, where you are, your age, and the symptoms you may experience.
COVID-19, a new disease first discovered in China in December, is spreading rapidly around the world. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a pandemic on March 11, saying it expected cases and deaths to climb. As of Friday, there were more than 14,000 cases of coronavirus in the United States, with cases reported in all 50 states.
