Amazon.com Inc. said Saturday that it will raise overtime pay for U.S. warehouse workers between March 15 and May 9,media reported. Amazon says u.S. warehouse workers will double their hourly overtime pay after exceeding the weekly hours they work. Amazon’s announcement came a day after four U.S. senators wrote to Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO, asking him to explain how the company would protect warehouse workers during the outbreak. The senators’ letter to Bezos comes two days after the first COVID-19 virus tested positive at Amazon’s warehouse in the United States.
Employees at Amazon Warehouse say many warehouse employees are worried about their health and safety as people start isolating their homes to prevent the virus, leading to a surge in orders from Amazon. Some Amazon warehouse and distribution employees say their workplaces are crowded, lack symptom screening and lack of cleaning supplies.
