Since its launch in November 2019, Google’s cloud gaming service, Stadia, has still had only 30 new games and 60 updates, and is expected to launch another 120 games by 2020. The size of the game is significantly inadequate compared to other platforms, and Google announced a partnership with Unity to launch the Stadia Makers program, hoping to introduce more games to Google’s cloud gaming platform.
Google says it is looking to create games using Unity 2019.3 and later, and wants to launch games in 2020 or 2021. Developers who want to join the Stadia Makers program will enjoy the following benefits:
Technical support: Developers participating in the Stadia Makers program will receive technical support from Unity experts to help developers reach a predetermined Alpha, Beta, Certification, and release date.
Free development of hardware: Stadia Makers participants are eligible for up to five physical development kits based on team size and structure.
Funding: There is a very practical financial consideration when developing across platforms, and Stadia will offset some of these costs.
