At least six Amazon warehouses in the U.S. have tested positive for the new coronavirus, media reported. The six warehouses are located in New York City, Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Jacksonville, Florida, Katy, Texas, Brownston, Michigan, and Oklahoma City. In response, some of the warehouses will be closed for cleaning and disinfection, while some employees who have been in close contact with infected people have been quarantined.
Less than a week ago, the internet retailer reported the first case of a warehouse employee infection at a warehouse in Queens, New York. Amazon employees and their supporters have expressed serious concerns that the company will not be able to protect hundreds of thousands of employees and distribution workers during the new corona virus outbreak.
At the same time, consumers need to worry, as shoppers now rely more on e-commerce companies such as Amazon for food, cosmetics and other necessities, while they are being asked to stay at home. If these warehouses have to close, Amazon’s shipments will be reduced and slower.
