Where’s the garbage that humans make?

Beijing time on November 11, according to foreign media reports, people’s daily life will create a lot of household waste, will be thrown into the garbage bins every day, and then by sanitation workers to the landfill for incineration, or to the garbage collection center for plasma gasification treatment. But in fact, garbage disposal is not simple, and is an indispensable part of modern human life.

Where's the garbage that humans make?

Have you ever thought about where you’ll get a black garbage bag out of your home? Waste management is a global problem, any country on the planet is facing the thorny problem of waste disposal, according to statistics, the average resident of the United States to produce 4.4 pounds of garbage per day, the Japanese government in waste disposal investment is much more than garbage collection, amazingly, industrialized countries consume 75% of the world’s paper supply, But these countries make up only 16% of the world’s population!

Ironically, with the country’s urbanization process increasing and the number of garbage being increasing, this means that people need more paper, a lot of consumer consumer packaging waste, newspapers and magazines, disposable plastic materials, diaper waste, etc., and urban areas produce 2-3 times as much waste as rural areas.

Landfill

Landfill, as the name implies, is to dispose of waste in places far away from residential areas, however, landfill must be reasonable planning, to avoid hazardous waste pollution of the environment, landfills mainly deal with solid waste, and according to the type of garbage accurate classification.

Urban landfills are used to dispose of residential waste, bio-reactive landfills are used to dispose of organic waste, and industrial landfills are used to dispose of commercial and industrial waste.

Construction demolition landfills deal mainly with construction waste, which is mainly derived from house demolition, bridge and renovation works, including metal, heavy materials, glass, concrete and wood.

Coal Burning Residue landfills (CCRs) are dedicated to treating waste from coal combustion.

Hazardous landfills are mainly used for hazardous waste, such as batteries, coatings, flammable liquids and other chemicals, fluorescent lamps, oils, etc.

Incineration

Incineration is a heat treatment method for disposing of waste, which is burned at high temperatures and uses the energy generated to generate electricity, but during the process waste is first removed by high temperature combustion, so that the gas released into the atmosphere does not cause damage to the environment.

Waste incineration is particularly common in Japan, where land resources are scarce and cannot occupy too much land for landfills, incineration can reduce waste by 95 per cent and significantly reduce landfill waste, while incineration is particularly suitable for hospital waste and sewage waste.

Plasma gasification

Plasma is an extremely high temperature, charged gas, they can produce current, so also known as the “fourth state of matter”, plasma is naturally present in lightning and solar surface gas, plasma gasification is the United States Westinghouse Plasma developed a new urban and industrial waste treatment technology, and incineration treatment, Plasma gasification reduces the number of landfills, but rather does not burn waste like incineration, but instead converts organic waste directly into gas, preserving compounds and inorganic waste in a crystal called slag.

3R treatment: reduced use, reuse and recycling

3R treatment: reduced use, reuse, and recycling. 3R treatment: reduced use, reuse, and recycling.

Reduce use: Before the accumulation of garbage, the first thing to do is to stop or reduce the use, so as not to produce garbage, so reducing the use of resources is the first step in garbage disposal, people should try not to create garbage, so that people do not destroy resources and dispose of garbage. Reducing waste of resources can save a country billions of dollars, to do this is very simple, is based on people’s needs, rather than according to people’s wishes to use resources, only buy the necessities of life, buy high-quality goods, do not indulge in “fast fashion”, as far as possible to use the least packaging materials.

Reuse: For some people, garbage can be a “treasure”, people often think of waste items as useless, destroyed, disgusting, do you remember the school teachers let students use waste to make beautiful, creative items? To protect the environment, people should incorporate their creative designs into used items so that they can be used again, giving new value to use, such as reusable packaging materials and carrying reusable cloth bags, rather than buying plastic bags every time they go to the store.

Recycling: Items such as newspapers, plastics, aluminum and cardboard can all be recycled, and recycling is already an industry, and in order to make something out of recycling, a new manufacturing industry must be built, which will create more jobs. According to preliminary estimates, landfills that dispose of 10,000 tons of waste can provide six jobs, but 10,000 tons of recycling can create 36 jobs, recycling can be done at home, people only need to extract recyclable material from waste, there are currently a treatment center specifically for recycling waste, people can put recycled materials there for easy handling.

Some countries need to invest billions of dollars in waste disposal, which is a thought-provoking and alarming problem, while governments need to allocate large amounts of land, build factories to deal with human-made waste, and do their best to keep the planet green.
