The European Space Agency (ESA) has revealed that several space missions are currently affected by an ongoing outbreak of the new coronavirus,media reported. The agency said in a statement released Wednesday that it is reducing its mission and allowing some of its personnel at the mission control center in Germany to return home to work to avoid contracting the virus. In addition, some instrument operations were also forced to stop.
In a statement Tuesday, the agency disclosed that four space science missions will be affected by the outbreak:
– Mars Express
– Solar Orbiter
ESA said it would reduce the amount of data collected from the four tasks and would suspend instrument operations related to the four tasks. The agency says only key personnel are going to work at the center site and also have to work on social distance.
