Apple has bought popular mobile weather service provider Dark Sky in an effort to enhance the Weather app, media reported. Dark Sky, which has long been on the Web, iPhone and Android platforms, is doing well mainly because it provides more specific data and notifications. “We are excited that we now have the opportunity to reach more users and have more influence than we used to be,” Dark Sky said in a statement announcing the acquisition via its official website. “
Apple built the Weather app into the device when the first iPhone was launched, and now its data comes from The Weather Channel. With the acquisition of Dark Sky, Apple will optimize the Weather app.
Dark Sky will still sell to iPhone and iPad users through the App Store for $3.99 in the future, but Android users won’t be able to continue to buy.
The site’s versatility will be discontinued on July 1st, and application programming tools for other apps and websites will continue until the end of 2021.
