The luxury car maker is expected to announce on Tuesday local time that part of its plant in San Agata, Bologna, Italy, will produce masks and facial protection equipment for medical staff working at Theant’Orsola-Malpighi Hospital.
It is understood that those who usually work in Lamborghini cars will produce medical masks, while workers at the company’s carbon fiber factory will mass produce masks through 3D printers. The company says it has the ability to produce 1,000 masks and 200 facial protections a day.
Italy, the epicentre of Europe’s new coronavirus pandemic, has imposed a severe blockade on its population.
It was not immediately clear when the plant would resume production of cars, but CEO Stefano Domenicali said the company was doing everything it could to help win the battle. It is understood that every night, as a sign of solidarity with the Italian people, the company lit up its headquarters in San Agatha Bologna in the colours of the Italian flag.
