Tesla is revamping its Fremont plant to boost Model Y production capacity

Electric car maker Tesla has revamped its Fremont, California, plant to increase production capacity for Model Y and other vehicles during a shutdown of the new coronavirus outbreak,media reported. Tesla has been operating for nearly a decade since it bought the plant from Toyota, and only a few times has been shut down due to upgrades. Several of Tesla’s applications for construction permits for the Fremont plant show that the company is making some upgrades.

Tesla, for example, will improve its white body production line to increase production capacity. In addition, there are module and packaging production process improvements, the installation of a new transport platform for Model Y production and the reopening of its painting workshop in the south.

Last year, media reports said Tesla was installing a fifth assembly line at its Fremont plant in preparation for Model Y production. At the time, Tesla called the assembly line GA5. Tesla officially started production of the Model Y in January.
