Apple plans to launch an augmented reality (AR) headset in 2022 and an AR eyeglass in 2023, according to a product roadmap, people familiar with the matter said today. Apple executives held an internal meeting at their California headquarters last month to show employees the company’s future product roadmap, the person said. Apple plans to launch AR Headset in 2022 and a stylish AR glasses in 2023, according to the roadmap.
The meeting was hosted by Mike Rockwell, Apple’s vice president of AR and virtual reality (VR) projects, and participants discussed some new details about the design and functionality of AR headset.
Clearly, the timetable for the road map runs counter to recent analyst seints and media reports. DigiTimes, a Taiwanese media outlet, reported last week that Apple had teamed up with Valve, the US game developer, to develop the rumoured AR headset, which is expected to launch next year.
The DigiTimess, citing industry sources, said Apple’s AR headset would be assembled by Quanta Computer and Pegatron.
Analysts say the two high-profile AR products are significant for Apple, which is looking for the next major technology platform after the iPhone.
