The HAL 9000 screen image, which Tesla has set up for its electric car Sentry Mode to pay tribute to 2001: Space Odyssey, will be removed from a new version of the software update because of copyright issues, media outlet Electrek reported. Instead, it looks more like the animation in valve’s Portal game.

The Sentinel mode, introduced in 2019, enables parking camera recording on models equipped with autopilot driver assistance systems.
When turned on, the large on-board screen flashes an image of the HAL 9000 to alert anyone who may have damaged or broken into the vehicle.
Although neither Tesla nor MGM Studios has taken a position to replace the images, we are not surprised.
Last year, for example, Tesla had to remove the Atari Classic Racing Game for in-vehicle infotainment systems because it did not have the right to do so.
In addition to graphics updates, the new version will also allow owners to view footage captured in Sentinel or regular dashcam mode.
For people who don’t want to copy a USB stick to another device to watch, this update will be extremely convenient.
