Tesla, the US electric car maker, has filed a permit to supply electricity in the UK,media reported. The report quoted company sources as saying the application for a permit from the energy regulator could be an attempt to introduce the company’s Autobidder platform. But the media also said Tesla did not specify why it applied for the license.
Autobidder is an automated energy trading platform that is currently operating at Tesla’s Hornsdale Power Reserve Centre in South Australia.
The car maker has built up a major battery business in recent years and is preparing to use its technology to enter the UK market, the media quoted industry sources as saying.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In 2017, the carmaker built the world’s largest lithium-ion battery in South Australia to help power the region.”
Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, recently tweeted that Tesla’s share price was too high. The company’s shares fell 9 percent on Friday.
