Tesla is preparing to partially resume production at its Fremont, California, plant next week, in violation of the local new crown blockade, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The newspaper quoted anonymous sources as saying a small group of employees returned to the plant on Wednesday to begin preparing to reopen some production lines between now and next week.
Earlier, California Governor Gavin Newsom said some manufacturing plants could soon be allowed to reopen, but it was unclear whether Tesla’s plants would be included.
The Alameda County authority, where the Tesla plant is located, declared the plant a non-essential business in March and had to be closed during the outbreak.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been critical of U.S. home quarantine orders to contain the outbreak, and even openly called the measures “fascist” in a earnings conference call last week.
