May 8 (UPI) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state has decided to lift the ban on the outbreak starting Friday and allow manufacturers in the district to return to work, according tomedia reports. The news was praised by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who immediately tweeted, “Good!! “
However, Tesla’s only u.S. auto plant is in Fremont, Alameda County, in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, where the county has imposed a separate blockade that lasts until the end of May. Tesla’s Fremont plant is still unable to resume normal operations under the county’s order.
Ray Kelly, a spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, said the California lift order, announced Thursday local time, does not include lifting the one the county is enforcing.
Musk has been critical of the ban and is eager for an early return to work at Tesla’s U.S. auto manufacturing plant.
In an interview with comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast, he said the blockade order being enforced by states in the United States was “unconstitutional” and would not be upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court if challenged. He had previously made similar remarks on Apron 29 on Tesla’s first-quarter earnings conference call, calling the blockade “fascist.”
