Google today announced that its video chat app, Google Duo, now supports group chat. Google says group video chats could be a good way to get together with family and friends during the COVID-19 outbreak, which will be available in previews in Chrome in the coming weeks.

Google Duo has also added a new “family mode” that lets you doodle on the screen in real time and deploy Snapchat-like avatars and related effects on the screen. Google says duo hides mute and hang-up buttons when you’re in home mode, so you can doodle and play without worrying about the mistouch that’s causing the line.’

Google says Snapchat-like avatars and effects will also be available in single-player chats on Android and iOS. The first special effects will go live this week, including turning yourself into a flower to celebrate Mother’s Day.
