Cumulative test 76 models: Global models in the U.S. market safety performance gap still exists

With the increasing importance of consumers for car safety, in the past two years, the insurance industry led by the establishment of the crash test report, has become the authoritative guide in everyone’s mind. Recently, China Research Publishing published the “China Insurance Vehicle Safety Index 2019 Evaluation Results Research Report.” The report reviews the 2019 evaluation of China Insurance Vehicle Safety Index (C-IASI) and summarizes and analyzes the technical characteristics of the models and the development trend of automotive safety performance.

Cumulative test 76 models: Global models in the U.S. market safety performance gap still exists

Of the 27 models (including 14 cars and 13 SUVs) published, there are 26 traditional models and 1 new energy model, of which 8 are autonomous application sympathising models.

Up to now, China Insurance Vehicle Safety Index has accumulated 76 models, the evaluation model market sales coverage rate of 35.2%.

According to the four evaluation dimension sitories of the China Insurance Vehicle Safety Index, in terms of crash resistance and maintenance economic index, there are 3 models with good evaluation (A), 5 models have general evaluation (M), the rest of the models received poor (P) evaluation, and 11% of models that received good and above evaluation.

In terms of interior occupant safety index, 17 models rated excellent (G), 2 models rated well (A), the rest of the models are general (M) evaluation, get a good rating and above the proportion of 70% of models.

In terms of the safety index for lay-offs, 26 models received good and above evaluation, accounting for 96%.

In terms of vehicle assistance safety, 23 of the 24 models equipped with FCW/AEB received good (A) and above evaluation, accounting for 96%.

The report shows that the safety technology level of the measured models has been steadily improved compared with the past models. The 2019 evaluation results show that the evaluation model basic safety configuration rate increased year by year, the front side airbag single model full-line standard rate of 100%, head side air curtain single model full-line standard rate of 59%;

The report found that the gap between the global vehicle safety performance in the U.S. and China markets remains, but has narrowed significantly.

Of the 12 global models evaluated in the 2019 annual survey, the proportion of passenger safety indices in the vehicle has improved significantly compared with previous years. Of these, the positive 25% bias collision C-IASI was evaluated at 25% in 2018, rising to 73% in 2019, and 91% by the American Highway Safety Insurance Association (IIHS) in the same assessment. In terms of side touching, the proportion of Excellent C-IASI assessment increased from 33% in 2018 to 83%, and the outstanding ratio of IIHS assessment was 100%. In terms of top pressure and seat/headrest test, the excellent ratio of C-IASI assessment is 92%, and the excellent ratio of IIHS assessment is 100%.

China Insurance said that in 2020, China Insurance Automotive Safety Index will focus on the “new four” of automobiles, strengthen research on electric vehicles, intelligent vehicle risk identification technology, focus on system technology research, test evaluation and related applications and other fields, strengthen public welfare publicity and international technical research, continue to play a “boost” role, for insurance companies to enhance risk management capabilities to provide decision-making reference, for the automotive industry to provide technical support for technological progress, to provide protection for consumer rights and interests.
