BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) — Amazon confirmed Thursday that an employee at its Long Island warehouse in New York has died of new coronavirus pneumonia, media reported Thursday. The employee, George Leigh, was 59 years old and has a daughter and several grandchildren. His life’s job was to sort parcels and pallets and train new employees.
Amazon has been under pressure to disclose the number of employees tested for the new coronavirus and the number of people who died because of the virus. In addition, the company’s warehouse employees have been very dissatisfied with the company’s practices, and even went on strike.
It’s unclear when George Ray contracted the new corona virus, but he last worked at amazon warehouse on March 28. He told the manager that day that he was tired and “needs to go home and rest.”
Amazon declined to comment on how many warehouse employees in the U.S. died as a result of the new crown outbreak. But George Ray is the sixth Amazon employee known to have died as a result of the new crown outbreak. (Ding Hong)
