Everlywell was one of the first start-ups to announce the development of self-use, home-based COVID-19 testing, but regulators later made it clear that it did not comply with the guidelines. Everlywell then began to strengthen cooperation with the FDA to obtain appropriate emergency authorization for its kits before sending them to consumers.

Everlywell’s COVID-19 Test Home Collection Kit is the first independent sample collection kit to be awarded by the FDA. Currently, new crown testing kits are usually prescribed by a doctor and guided collection methods, and some kits can only be licensed for one test, i.e. the kit and the collection party are required to be the same.

Everlywell is groundbreaking, offering kits independent of any particular testing laboratory, which can work with different laboratories and potentially offer a wider range of tests. After the user completes the sample collection at home, it can be sent to one of the 2 laboratories.

The kit, which costs $109, includes a nasopharyngeal swab and saliva collection tube, a FedEx envelope for submitting samples, and a promise to guarantee results within 48 hours of receipt. If your test results are positive, a telemedicine professional will contact you to guide you on your next steps and report your findings to state and federal public health authorities to help inform you of the ongoing response.
