“The anti-epidemic experience from China is being exported to the United States and is a model for U.S. factories that have just returned to work. In an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency, Tao Lin, Tesla’s vice president of external affairs for China, said that tesla’s Shanghai super plant capacity climb and the construction of the second phase of the plant are progressing smoothly, and the new model Model Y is expected to produce in the first quarter of next year, again running “Tesla Speed.”
Tesla’s Shanghai Super plant, located in the new area of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, is the first foreign-owned auto production plant in China since it liberalized foreign-invested shares in the auto industry. In 2019, the plant ran out of “Tesla Speed” that started production that year, went into production that year, and delivered that year.
Tesla’s Shanghai super plant is also one of China’s first auto manufacturing plants to resume production. Tao Lin said the plant is currently in production smoothly, and is expected to achieve the target of 4,000 units per week by June this year, meaning that actual production will exceed the design capacity of 150,000 units per year at the first super plant.
Tao Lin said that the second phase of the super plant is also going well, is expected to be completed by the end of this year, the first quarter of next year is expected to achieve model Y model mass production. That’s just over a year after Tesla founder Elon Musk announced the launch of the Model Y manufacturing project in Shanghai on January 7 th, renewing the “Tesla Speed.”
Tao Lin said that in the shanghai plant anti-epidemic process, Tesla and the government worked closely to explore a lot of anti-epidemic experience, these experiences are not only provided to the super plant in the FTZ port-facing new area, but also to the newly reopened U.S. factory for reference and reference.
“How do field returning employees are isolated?” How can employees reduce close contacts while completing their work? These experiences are written into Tesla’s ‘China Operations Manual’ and used it as a basis for making it more native to the United States, supporting better resumption of production at U.S. factories. TaoLin said.
Dowlin said that Tesla has a strong Internet gene, its test drive, sales and other links are accelerating online. In contrast, the offline experience center is more of an experience function that hosts new products and new ideas. “The next step for Tesla’s Experience Center will be to move to more new cities based on the expansion of the customer base in different cities. “
