The future of Volkswagen’s performance-oriented R division will be electric cars, media reported. Jurgen Stackmann, a member of vw’s board of directors, said it was important for the sector to be electrified at least. The executive told Top Gear in an interview released on Friday that the future of the fast-tracked brand is vibrant, even if it is moving toward electric discovery.
However, he has reservations about whether R will represent the performance of an all-electric vehicle or whether there will be other departments replacing R. There is a big difference between an all-electric vehicle and an electric car. The latter can simply mean a basic power mixing system.
A VW spokesman declined to comment further on Stackmann’s comments.
There is no sign yet that the market will see any form of electrification of the Golf R, so for now, consumers can still enjoy the R, but believe that VW’s fastest car will surely fit into the battery in the future.
