NVIDIA has announced a new 7nm process architecture, Ampere, the first of which is named “A100 Tensor Core GPU” and its brand prefix Tesla has disappeared. According to media reports, NVIDIA has abandoned the Name of Tesla for the simple reason that it collided with Musk’s electric car brand.
A spokesman for NVIDIA confirmed that GPU products for the scientific computing, data center market will not use the Tesla brand any more, and that NVIDIA has in fact stopped using the brand after the release of the Inference Computing Acceleration Card Tesla T4 in 2018.
At present, the NVIDIA global official website, the Word Tesla has completely disappeared, in addition to the A100, T4, the earlier release of the Volt architecture Tesla V100, Pascal architecture Tesla P100/P4/P40 has also been renamed V100, P100/P4/P40.
But the Tesla brand still has some traces on other language networks, such as Chinese, but it’s believed to be completely absent soon.
NVIDIA announced in June 2007 that its general computing product line was named the Tesla family, initially including GPU computing processors, desktop supercomputers, GPU computing servercategories, expanding over the past 11 years, artificial intelligence, deep learning, autonomous driving, high-performance computing and so on.
But Musk founded Tesla in 2003, four years early.
