Hong Kong Stock Exchange on the 13th disclosed on the official website of Alibaba submitted a prospectus, the document also disclosed Alibaba’s cloud computing business Alibaba Cloud revenue, the last three years of rapid growth, but compared with cloud computing giant Amazon, there is still a big gap. Alibaba’s disclosure data show that in the year ended March 31, 2017, Alibaba’s fiscal year 2017, Alibaba’s revenue rose to RMB6.663 billion, followed by an increase of RMB13.39 billion in the following year, up 100.96 percent year-on-year.
In the year to March 31, Alibaba Cloud’s revenue was RMB24.702 billion, up 84.48 percent from the previous year.
In the second quarter of this year, Alibaba Cloud’s revenue was RMB7,787 million, up RMB3,089 million from RMB4,698 million in the same period in 2018, up 65.75 percent year-on-year.
Although Alibaba Cloud’s revenue growth in the last three years has been rapid and it is still maintaining good growth momentum, it still has a big gap with cloud computing giant Amazon.
Amazon’s cloud computing business generated revenue of $13.314 billion for the year ended March 31, 2017, compared with $19.239 billion for the year ended March 31, and $27.91 billion in the year ended March 31.
At the current exchange rate, Amazon’s cloud computing business generated revenueofs of 93.396 billion yuan, 134.96 billion yuan and 195.786 billion yuan, respectively, for the same period, 14 times, 10.08 times and 7.93 times Alibaba Cloud’s revenue.
In the second quarter of this year, Amazon’s cloud computing business generated revenue of $8.381 billion, 7.39 times the $1.134 billion alibaba cloud generated in the same period.
However, with Alibaba Cloud’s rapid growth in revenue, the gap with Amazon’s cloud computing business is still narrowing, as the gap between the two companies’ cloud computing business revenue has narrowed year by year.
