In the United States, fighting misinformation and conspiracy theories about the new coronavirus is almost as difficult as fighting the outbreak itself, media reported. A conspiracy theory about Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is emerging, a new survey has found. The investigation found a conspiracy theory that Bill Gates planned to monitor their activity by implanting microchips in billions of people with a new crown vaccine developed in the future.
The conspiracy theory is understood to have been supported by Fox News viewers and Republicans.
Half of the people who said Fox News was their main source of television news were convinced by the conspiracy theory in the survey, conducted by YouGov for Yahoo News, which targeted 1,640 representative adults in the United States. Then there are those who call themselves Republicans and voted for Trump in 2016, with 44 percent of those in both groups saying they believe the conspiracy theory. In addition, 26 percent of Republicans said it was the wrong message, while 31 percent said they were unsure.
Representatives for Fox News, the Republican Party, the White House and Trump’s 2020 campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
