The researchers found that an ElasticSearch database controlled by a subsidiary of Advanced Info Service (AIS), a Thai mobile operator, is publicly accessible, with approximately 8.3 billion records and a capacity of about 4.7 terabytes, an additional 200 million records every 24 hours.

AIS is Thailand’s largest GSM mobile operator with approximately 40 million users. Publicly accessible databases are controlled by its subsidiary Advanced Wireless Network (AWN) and include DNS query logs and NetFlow logs, which can be used to map a user’s network activity.
