Last year, Microsoft made it easier for parents to manage their children’s game time on Windows 10 and Xbox, thanks to an Xbox One system update. These settings can be applied to Windows 10, Xbox and Android devices, but setting these limits requires parents to do so through the Microsoft Home Portal on the network. Today, Microsoft released the Xbox Home Settings app, a new app for mobile devices that can set limits on Xbox games directly with your phone.
The app lets parents set rules, starting with screen time limits, individual settings for every day of the week, and enforcement of content filters that allow kids to play only games that are age-appropriate, and can turn on online games and communication, play with friends only, or disable them altogether.
The app will also send daily and weekly activity reports to parents about their children’s game time. If the child wants to play a little more, they can make a request, and parents can allow or reject the request through notifications in the APP. Later this year, these notifications can also be used to approve children’s friend requests, and the app will also include the ability to manage your child’s friends list.
Xbox’s Home Settings app is already previewing on iOS and Android, and will be released later this year.
