According tomedia reports, the chip generation TSMC, which has successfully mass-produced the 5nm process, is promoting the second generation 5nm process in the fourth quarter of this year. Media quoted sources as saying that TSMC is promoting the production of the second generation of 5nm process in the fourth quarter of this year. In previous reports, media had expected TSMC’s second-generation 5nm process to be mass-produced by 2021. Given that mass production is now ahead of schedule in the fourth quarter of this year, this means that progress will be earlier than previously expected.
TSMC often goes through multiple iterations after each chip process upgrade, with N7 and N7 plus previously 7nm processes. The same is true now for the 5nm process, which is also known as N5 Plus or N5P in the second generation.
TSMC also mentions the N5P process on its official website, and official website information indicates that they plan to announce the N5P process one year after the 5nm process is announced. The 5nm process began risk trial production in March last year and will move to mass production this year.
