June 2 (UPI) — Chinese electric car maker BYD will supply electric car batteries to U.S. automaker Ford, according tomedia reports. Ford’s joint venture with Chang’an Auto in China is seeking approval to produce a plug-in hybrid with BYD batteries, the documents show.
This marks THE first time BYD has struck a battery supply deal with one of the world’s leading carmakers.
Shenzhen-based BYD said it would supply components for electric vehicles, including batteries and power management equipment.
Ford said last year that it plans to launch more than 30 new or significantly modified models in china by the end of 2021, more than a third of which will be electric cars.
Ford and BYD did not immediately respond to requests for comment. (Chenchen)
