Xiaomi, one of the makers who last year showcased foldable smartphones, is also expected to unveil a new folding screen in the second half of 2020, as samsung and Huawei did. Dutch technology blog LetsGoDigital has discovered a new design patent for the company, with illustrations depicting images similar to Huawei’s Mate Xs and Joo Flexpai 2. It is reported that Xiaomi submitted a design patent to the State Intellectual Property Office at the end of 2019 and was officially announced on June 5, 2020.
The application file contains 19 previously unseen images of Xiaomi folding screen smartmachines, which are shown to feature an external lys flexible screen with an area of display about the size of Huawei Mate Xs and Xiaoyu Flexpai 2.
There is almost no reserved screen frame on the front of the body, and there is a thicker grip on the right side that extends back. The back screen appears slightly narrower and is embedded in the quad-flash module, with an oval button on the right (or for power switch/volume adjustment).
Compared to the plane of the flexible screen, the quadrlower slightly raises the height of the grip area. The screen body can also be released by a mechanical locking structure with a microphone at the top and bottom, and a speaker and USB-C charging/data port at the bottom.
Although Xiaomi has not actively released news about the folding screen smartphone in recent times, the company is expected to bring new surprises in the second half of 2020.

Three weeks ago, Greggs TV interviewed Ross Young, ceo of Display Supply Chain Consultants, during which he shared his expectations for the flexible screen smartphone market for the second half of 2020.
Huawei, for example, is expected to unveil a new folding screen similar to samsung Galaxy Fold in August/September, with a price tag of less than 2,500 euros for the Mate Xs, and samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to be unveiled in the same period.
Asked by other vendors, Ross Young said Xiaomi would soon launch a new folding screen, but did not give further details in the interview.
Also last month, LetsGoDigital reported another Xiaomi folding screen smartphone, but it featured a flip-flop design similar to samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip. It will provide sufficient unique features by selecting a rotating camera system.
