On May 27, Microsoft began rolling out Windows 10 May 2020 updates to some PCs, not everyone. You can force an upgrade on your device or install it manually by checking for updates, and while most users can successfully apply updates, some people have reported some issues after a major upgrade. The May 2020 update for Windows 10 is undoubtedly the same as ever, and is a bumpy start for some people, and compatibility issues can be slightly disruptive, depending on the hardware and drivers you use.
Microsoft’s own Surface products are not immune to its major software upgrades, and the company doesn’t even offer APrS 7 and Surface Laptop 3 for May 2020 updates.
The following is a list of known issues that have been identified:
After upgrading to Windows 10, version 2004, There will be compatibility issues with Intel Optane devices.
DISM reports an incorrect status.
There is a problem with the Bluetooth connection of the PC with the Realtek driver.
The variable refresh rate of devices using Intel iGPU failed.
Conexant ISST audio driver has a compatibility issue.
A BSOD blue screen appears when the Thunderbolt base is inserted or unplugged.
With Always On, Always Connected’s device restarts unexpectedly.
Mouse control failures occur in some apps and games using GameInput Redistributable.
A startup problem is occurring with a device containing aksfridge.sys or aksdf.sys.
The old driver of NVIDIA causes the blue screen to crash.
Lengthy installation process
On older hardware, the Windows 10 May 2020 update may take a lot of time to install. The time required may be affected by a number of factors, with some reporting that the “working update” screen can take several hours, or even the device may be stuck on the installation screen all the time.
While watching the installation screen for a few hours may make you feel like a big problem, it’s normal, and most systems are still able to complete the installation.
Driver compatibility issues
In a post on Reddit, many users complained about a bunch of compatibility issues with Windows 10 May 2020 updates. The user recorded USB problems, Bluetooth issues, webcam issues, and other specific driver issues. Some people have also reported audio issues after upgrading to Windows 10 2004, and the root cause of the audio problem is not yet known.
The Windows 10 2004 update appears to be causing performance issues, slow startup times, and installation issues on some PCs.
“Windows 10 feels a little slower than 1909. In addition, the start menu caused my computer to lag by about two seconds before returning to normal. One user pointed out.
“Back to the previous version to get back to normal, my startup time is twice as slow. I’ve never had any problems with feature updates before. Another user confirmed.
“My computer usually takes less than 5 seconds to shut down before the update, but now it takes about 20 seconds to shut down. I updated it with the Update Assistant tool. One user wrote.
It is possible that the old driver conflicted with the Windows 10 May 2020 update, affecting the performance of some systems. The update was also not installed on some systems and there was an information-free error message.
Temporary user profiles
The old user profile error reappeared, causing the data to be temporarily lost.
“I’ve applied the latest updates to my computer. It has deleted all my pictures and downloaded files. It also removes every app I install and all the settings I have in The Edge and Chrome browsers. It’s like my computer is brand new out of the box,” one user wrote.
This is because Windows 10 fails after loading a temporary user profile, naturally no user files, shortcuts, custom settings and other important data.
However, files, pictures, and other important data still exist, and users should be able to restore their master profile by restarting the machine multiple times.
Most users don’t experience any problems with Windows 10 2004, but you shouldn’t force updates if you’re using unsupported or old Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or monitor drivers.
Because recent cumulative updates can cause many problems, it is always recommended that updates are installed only when they are available or automatically available to your device, without considering forcing the upgrade to avoid accidents.
