In 2018, Google announced the closure of the consumer version of Google Plus and the retention of the enterprise version of Google Plus for G Suite. In 2019, Google released Currents, essentially a change of name to Google plus G Suite.
It features similar features to Microsoft’s Yammer and Facebook with Workplace, providing a forum for internal discussions and announcements. At the same time, however, Google retains Google Plus.
Now, based on a message sent to a G Suite administrator, Google announces that it will close Google Plus for G Suite on July 6, after which users will have no way to opt out of Currents or return to Google Plus.
The Google Plus mobile app will automatically upgrade to Currents, and all existing links will be redirected to Currents. Google Plus will disappear completely.
