Tesla is ready to bring its Solar Roof products to the international market. The California company has filed a solar roof patent with the European Patent Office. The patent, called “Solar Roof Tile Packaging,” outlines the shell structure of a single solar roof tile from Tesla. The patent had previously been filed in the United States, but had not been filed with the European Patent Office.
The patent application appears to indicate that Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, hopes to bring the company’s solar roof products to the international market later this year. The patent description contains the construction of a solar roof tile assembly that shows that the component consists of “multiple solar roof tiles placed side by side and one or more gaskets.” Tiles are coupled together by electrical and mechanical means.
Tesla’s solar roof capacity peaked in the U.S., according to the company’s first-quarter update. Its Giga New York plant in Buffalo produces more than 4 megawatts (MW) of solar roofs per week, enough to meet the electricity needs of 1,000 homes.
Musk said initial orders from European customers will be completed at the company’s solar manufacturing plant in the United States. Increased solar roof capacity will require Tesla to increase the productivity of its Giga New York plant. This strategy is likely to change in the future in response to changes in demand for solar roofs in the European market.
Solar roofs have many advantages for homeowners who need to use solar energy to meet their residential energy needs. Not only does the system absorb energy from the sun, but the tiles themselves are beautiful. Traditional solar panels, while practical, do not meet the aesthetic needs of some homeowners, which may ultimately lead to them being unpopular with the market.
From an economic point of view, Tesla’s solar products are likened by Musk to a money-making machine. “If you live in a state with high electricity costs, with Tesla’s recently cut-price solar products, your roof is like having a money printing machine. Musk said on Twitter, “It’s better to buy it directly, but it’s obviously a good deal to rent.” “
