Tips: How to customize the meeting background in Microsoft Teams

In 2018, Microsoft introduced background blur for the first time in Teams, allowing users to blur the background while performing video chats to avoid distractions. In 2019, Microsoft announced that it would add support for a custom background to future releases, allowing users to choose a custom background (such as enterprise LOGO or office environments) while working remotely from home. After a delay of several months, Microsoft today offered the feature to all Teams users.

Before joining the meeting, set up the custom background steps for Teams as follows:

1. Choose to set up your video and audio before joining the video conference, and select the background effect (just to the right of the microphone switch).

2. If you want to customize the background, select “Add New” and then select an image you like and upload it. Uploaded image format solely supported. Jpg. PNG or .BMP files.

After you join the meeting, the steps to change the background are as follows

1. Enter the meeting control and then select more actions to show the background effect

2. To upload your own image, select “Add New” and select JPG from your computer. PNG or .BMP files.

You can preview a custom background before you apply it. If Add New Options isn’t available, you can use the custom background feature using these tips.
