According tomedia Techspot, Warner Media has finally addressed the chaotic nature of its VARIOUS HBO products through much-needed consolidation efforts. So far, HBO has run its high-end TV service, HBO Go, a streaming app for those who subscribe to cable products at the same time; HBO Now is an independent membership program for those who don’t get HBO through a cable provider; and HBO Max features existing programming and other content from Warner’s media library. The price of the latter two products is $14.99 per month.
HBO said it will stop its HBO Go service in the U.S. on July 31, 2020. Meanwhile, the HBO Now app will be renamed Simple HBO. Warner Media will remove the HBO Go app from major platforms (smart TVs, mobile devices, streaming sticks, etc.) and encourage users to sign up for HBO Max. Many HBO Go customers can use HBO Max for free, so simply create an account and switch your information to a new service.
A spokesman told CNBC that most people who used HBO Go through cable providers will now be able to use HBO Max.
