Microsoft recently admitted that some devices failed to start the Office Productivity Suite after installing the latest Windows 10 cumulative update. Microsoft says Windows 10 Version 1903/1909/2004 and multiple versions of Windows Server are affected.
“We have received reports that some users are unable to open applications, especially Microsoft Office applications, after installing KB4557957,” Microsoft wrote in the update log. Affected users may also receive an error, such as: ‘Windows can’t find the ‘c:’program files’microsoft office?office?office?office16/winword.exe’ make sure you enter the correct name and then try again. ‘”
However, this problem is not caused by cumulative updates, but also by Avast security software. Other users who do not use Avast products should not have this problem.
“This issue has been resolved by Avast,” Microsoft said. This issue only affects devices that use certain versions of Avast or AVG applications and is addressed by updating their respective products.” This means that you don’t need to take any other action on your side, and Avast itself has confirmed that some of its customers are experiencing this error. A fix has been pushed through the software update feature of Avast products, so installing the latest versions of these security apps should allow them to return to normal.
