Microsoft has filed a new trademark application for the Xbox Series, reigniting speculation that it will release at least one more console this year. Before Microsoft officially unveiled the Xbox Series X, it was announced that Microsoft would launch two next-generation consoles this year, the XSX, which is a high-end model, and the low-end console, code-named Lockhart. Although Microsoft later officially denied it, but recently and low-end console-related news has been a constant stream of news.
Just as the iPhone has multiple different models that coexist under the same “iPhone” name, Microsoft’s application for the Xbox Series trademark is likely to pave the way for another next-generation Xbox console.
Previous rumors were that Microsoft would launch a lower-performance, optical-drive-free next-generation Xbox, codenamed Lockhart. However, Sony recently unveiled a NON-optical drive PS5 model when it unveiled the appearance of the PS5 console, but it is the same as the optical drive version.
Lockhart may be one of several next-generation Xbox models that Microsoft may have hinted in an interview withmedia GameSpot in December 2019.
“Obviously, using the name Series X gives us the freedom to do other things under that name, and we can create other titles when we need them. “
