June 15 ( Xinhua) — The number of domestic Tesla Model Model models registered in May was 11,364, up 173.63 percent from 4,153 the previous month, according to data from China Automotive Information Network, according tomedia reports. Last week, Tesla sold 11,095 Chinese-made Model 3s in China, up 205 percent from a year et gross, according to data released last week by the CHINA Federation of Passengers, a 205 percent month-on-month increase, helping the Model 3 to regain the title of the best-selling model in the chinese market from BYD’s Qin Pro all-electric sedan.
The Model 3 has been one of China’s most popular cars since it was first delivered in January 2020. The move comes after figures from the Federation showed that model 3 sales in China fell 64 per cent month-on-month to 3,635 in April, down from 10,160 in March, in part because potential buyers delayed their plans until May.
The domestic Model 3 was produced at Tesla’s Shanghai super plant and was officially on track in January after trial production began at the end of 2019.
At the end of March, media reported that the plant had reached a new milestone, with the plant’s Model 3 production reaching 3,000 vehicles a week, meaning the company is on track to reach its target of producing 150,000 vehicles a year.
In May, Tesla’s global vice president, Tao Lin, said the plant could meet its goal of producing 4,000 Model 3s a week as early as the end of June.
