Tesla is in talks with authorities in The State’s Travis County over a subsidy to build a new electric vehicle assembly plant in the county near Austin, Texas, local media reported. The Travis County Sheriff’s Court is scheduled to discuss the terms of the deal on Tuesday and is expected to vote in the coming weeks, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
It was not immediately clear whether negotiations with Travis County indicated that Tesla had chosen the Austin area as its location for its new plant, or whether the company was in similar talks with authorities in Tulsa County, Oklahoma.
Tesla plans to produce electric pickups and Model Y SUVs and employ thousands of people.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said last month that he and Tesla CEO Steve Musk discussed the possibility of moving the company’s electric vehicle assembly plant in California to Texas.
