If your computer is equipped with a Realtek Bluetooth radio and the driver is still an older version, trying to update to Windows 10 November 2019 update 1909 may be blocked with the prompt: Realtek Bluetooth: Your PC’s driver or service has not yet supported this version of Windows 10, the new version is available.” You will then be given the option to go back and refresh.
To reduce the number of problems caused by incompatible drivers that cause the operating system to upgrade, Microsoft has now set a “compatibility hold” on the operating system, as in the example above.
Microsoft said it had “identified compatibility issues with some of the Bluetooth radio driver versions manufactured by Realtek.” Users are required to update the Realtek Bluetooth driver version to 1.5.1.012 or later to get rid of the compatibility restrictions they set on the device, and installing Windows 10 version 1909 or Windows 10 version 1903 will be affected until the driver is updated.
The company recommends that users check for updates to the Realtek Bluetooth driver and install it, if any. They can then install Windows 10 1909 or Windows 1903 by checking for updates again in Windows Update.
