According to the latest reports, Microsoft plans to upgrade xCloud’s servers to Xbox Series X hardware next year. Tom Warren of Tech Media The Verge recently tweeted that the excesses of xCloud servers from the Xbox One S to the Xbox Series X will occur sometime in 2021. So the xCloud service still uses a blade server made up of Xbox One S, not XSX, when it goes live.
According to reports, the next generation of console XSX’s processing chip performance far exceeds the existing Xbox One S, with a single chip running four Xbox One S game sessions at the same time. It also includes a new built-in video encoder that is six times more efficient than the external encoder Microsoft currently uses on xCloud servers.
The xCloud service is currently under BETA testing and is expected to go live later this year.
