June 20 (Xinhua) — Billionaire Elon Musk tweeted Friday that June Day will be listed as a U.S. holiday for teslas Tesla and SpaceX. June Day, on June 19, celebrates the abolition of slavery in the United States. About two hours later, SpaceX President Gwene Shotwell sent an email to the company clarifying Musk’s claim.
Ms Shortwell said June Day would not be an official holiday for the company from next year, and she informed employees of the company’s new diversity initiatives, “from microaggression (minor discrimination) to name-calling racist-based abuse and other intolerable abuses that occur in the company, which is completely unacceptable.” She said.
Separately, Valerie Capers Workman, Tesla’s head of human resources, clarified in an email that workers who choose to take a “June Day” leave would be unpaid. Earlier, Musk said the June Festival would take up one day of paid vacation.
