ARM confirms Mali GPU will receive driver updates through Google Play

June 25 news, Qualcomm SnapDragon865, SnapDragon765G and other chips to support GPU-driven independent updates. Until then, GPU drivers were typically bundled with OTA updates to push together. Now it can get GPU-driven updates through the App Store, like update software. SnapDragon865 models such as Xiaomi 10, Xiaomi 10 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro already support GPU-driven independent updates.

ARM now confirms that its Mali GPU will also be supported by GPU independent updates.

According to XDA, ARM said it was ready for a Mali GPU-driven standalone update, but unfortunately officials did not disclose which GPUs were supported for the independent update.

XDA speculates that the ARM Mali-G78 GPU, which recently appeared on the same stage as the Cortex A78 CPU architecture, may support standalone updates.

The Mali-G78 GPU is ARM’s next-generation graphics chip and is expected to be used on upcoming flagship platforms such as MediaTek and Samsung, where GPU drivers will be updated through the Google Play Store.
