Google unveils first Android TV based on Android 11 developer preview

Google today released its first Android 11 developer preview for Android TV. This release highlights improvements in privacy, performance, and connectivity. As the name suggests, this version is primarily for developers, and Google’s images released today are for ADT-3 developer devices only. This means that although you have another Android TV or a streaming box running Android TV, you can’t install this developer preview on it.

If you have an ADT-3 developer device, please note that once you have an Android 11 build on Android TV installed on it, you can’t downgrade it back to Android 10, and this process will also erase all your entire device’s data.

The installation steps are as follows:

Download the system image (link) and unzip the file.

Plug in the ADT-3 developer suite for Android TV and enable developer options.

Run flash-all.sh in the unzipped folder and manually mirror the ADT-3 device.

Google will provide more details on Android 11 for Android TV on August 10 as part of Android Beyond Phone Development Week.

It is important to note that the build released today contains only some underlying changes and no user-facing changes or improvements.
