59 Chinese apps dropped by Apple, Google in India

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) — Just two days after India banned 59 apps developed by Chinese companies, Apple and Google Inc. are complying with Indian government orders to block Access to them. UC Browser, Eggplant Express, cross-border e-commerce platform Club Factory and other Banned Chinese apps have taken off the shelves of Apple’s India App Store and Google India’s Google Play Store.

TikTok’s notification to Users in India

A Google spokesman said in a statement that the company reviewed the Indian government’s interim order to temporarily block users from accessing the apps on Google Play. Apple has taken a similar step in complying with indian government orders and has yet to comment.

Some app developers, including ByteDance, have voluntarily suspended user access to their apps in India, according to people familiar with the matter. The Indian government has invited executives from these companies to give them an opportunity to answer the government’s concerns. Kevin Mayer, CEO of TikTok Overseas, said on Wednesday that TikTok complied with India’s privacy and security requirements and looked forward to meeting with multiple stakeholders.
