On July 2, MediaTek officially launched its flagship smart TV chip, the S900, which supports 8K video decoding and high-speed edge AI operations, as well as Wi-Fi 6, according tomedia reports. MediaTek’s S900 is capable of converting digital signals in video into image signals suitable for screen playback, the report said. Its decoding capability allows it to display the contents of various video files in a smooth manner.
The addition of artificial intelligence helps improve image quality, including clarity, color reproduction, contrast, and even motion compensation.
It is understood that MediaTek S900 highly integrated high-performance CPU, GPU and exclusive AI processor APU (AI Processor Unit), by AI in the voice human interface and image quality, greatly optimize the user experience.
With the multi-core ARM Cortex-A73 CPU and multi-core Mali G52GPU, it can easily support 8K video decoding capabilities, support hdmi2.1A interface, and increase its bandwidth to 48Gbps for HDR10 plus, 4K 120Hz and 8K 60Hz video output.
The chip also integrates the self-developed proprietary AI processor APU (AI Processor Unit) to enable the next generation of smart TV AI image quality technology (AI PQ) to bring a smart TV with AI enhancements including face recognition, scene detection, and more.
It is reported that the MediaTek S900 will be installed in Samsung 8K QLED TV, becoming the world’s first Wi-Fi 6-enabled 8K TV.
