Tesla’s warranty service suddenly shrinks? Official response says warranty time is limited to self-funded upgrade of MCU accessories

On July 6th, it was said that “The Tesla warranty service has suddenly shrunk, touch screen and media control units have been halved to two years”. Tesla officials responded that the adjustment is limited to the warranty period for self-funded upgrades of MCU accessories, and that the warranty period for new car accessories remains unchanged. Tesla has previously reported that it has updated its terms to reduce the warranty time for touch screens and media control units from four years to 80,000 kilometers to two years and 40,000 kilometers (25,000 miles), whichever comes first.

According tomedia, the fault of the touch screen and media control unit is mainly related to the excessive wear of eMMC flash memory in the MCU.

So the choice of halving service time has led to direct and absurd comments.

In response to the above, Tesla made it clear that there is no so-called “shortened warranty” situation, 2 years / 40,000 km warranty time for human-caused damage or upgrade MCU, newly purchased replacement parts, the new car’s original MCU is still 4 years or 80,000 kilometers.
