Reversing into the warehouse can be said to be the “nightmare” of all novice drivers, especially those with narrow parking spaces in the community parking spaces, for many new female drivers are very unfriendly. To this end, Toyota Motor also gave the corresponding solution. Recently, Toyota Motor Has filed a new “four-wheel steering” patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, media reported.

As can be seen from the patent introduction, the vehicle in the patent, the four wheels are equipped with a separate hub motor, and can freely change the direction of the forward direction, driven by the hub motor wheel swerves back and forth, and then realize the steering function.

The patent document also shows how the vehicle rotates horizontally, diagonally, and in situ. Since the vehicle’s various modes of movement differ from those of conventional vehicles, a new “acoustic or optical” signal is required to keep drivers and pedestrians near the vehicle informed of the vehicle’s next operation.

For example, the lateral movement of the vehicle can be achieved when all four wheels are rotated by 90 degrees. When parking on the side of the road, you no longer need to use a variety of side parking techniques. As long as the distance before and after the right, can directly drive the vehicle into the rear of the car, simple rough, save time and effort.

And if each wheel, the inside of the front and back of the two directions, rotate 45 degrees, you can achieve the vehicle in-place turn, on the narrow road, this function is very practical.

Although the idea of changing the angle of the wheels at will to achieve a horizontal or in situ turn-around has long been proposed, the design is not yet used on mass-produced models. And toyota’s patent appearance may mean that the technology may soon be in our lives.
